Serving in Worship

Acolytes

Young members of the church in the 4th–12th grades are encouraged to participate as acolytes. An Acolyte is a lay person who assists in worship by performing such functions as carrying the processional cross or crucifix, lighting and extinguishing the candles, holding candles at the reading of the Gospel, helping with the collection of the offering, and the presentation of the bread and wine, usually while wearing an alb or other vestment. They serve once or twice a month, and may be asked to help with special services. Please contact the church office if you are interested in this ministry.

Altar Guild

A parish group organized for the purpose of preparing the altar for celebrations of the Eucharist; work includes making sure that altar hangings are the right color, preparing the chalice, purificators, corporal, and burse, and cleaning up afterwards. Those serving on the Altar Guild prepare the sanctuary for all services held at the church. Altar Guild members also deliver the altar flowers to home-bound, ill, or elderly members after the Sunday service. Twice a year, the Altar Guild meets to plan and prepare for the Easter and Christmas services. The Altar Guild is open to all members of the church.  Please contact Mary Christiano at 887-6235 if you are interested in this vital ministry.

Centering Prayer

Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of Contemplative Prayer by preparing ourselves to receive this gift. We may think of prayer as thoughts or feelings expressed in words, this is only one expression.  In the Christian tradition Contemplative Prayer is considered to be the pure gift of God.  It is the opening of mind and heart – our whole being – to God, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions. Its focus is the deepening of our relationship with the living Christ. Its fruits build communities of faith and bond the members together in mutual friendship and love.  Centering Prayer meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 5:30 pm.

Music Ministries

The musicians of Christ Church, under the direction of Allin Sorenson carry out their ministry by proclaiming the Word of God through music. Our choirs are an important part of that ministry. Mary Gates is our organist, Allin directs the St. Gregory Adult Choir, Tricia Zinecker directs the St. Cecilia Children’s Choir and  Mary Christiano is the director of the Bell Choirs. If you would like to join the music ministry please contact any of our capable directors.  Allin Sorenson 873-7291, Mary Gates 881-8092, Tricia Zinecker 732-4116, Mary Christiano 887-6235.

Bell Choirs

The bell choirs play occasional preludes and add special effects to choral anthems and parts of the liturgy. The St. Gregory Bell Choir practices at 9:30am Sunday mornings and the St. Cecilia Bell Choir practices at 4:30-5:00 pm on Wednesdays during the school year.

St. Cecilia Children’s Choir

St. Cecilia Children’s Choir sings at the 9:00am Holy Eucharist during the school year and with the St. Gregory Choir on Annual Meeting Sunday, Thanksgiving Eve, and Advent Lessons & Carols. They rehearse Wednesday evenings from 5:00pm-6:00pm from September through May. Every year they take a spring trip and have Choir School in the summer.

St. Gregory Adult Choir

This accomplished adult choir sings for the 11:00am Holy Eucharist and special services. They practice on Wednesday nights from 7:00pm-8:00pm. During the month of August a special quartet provides the worship music which gives the choir members a much deserved break.

Ushers & Greeters

Ushers/Greeters are very important to the life of the church because they offer the Ministry of Hospitality during worship services and are often the first people visitors will meet. Aside from welcoming newcomers and regulars to the service, ushers hand out bulletins and are available for those who might need assistance to their seat. Ushers are also responsible for counting those in attendance (including Children’s Worship & the nursery), and they take the Sacraments up to the altar for Communion. To learn more about this ministry, contact Charlie Bare at 887-3784.
